Peach French vintage open bottom girdle, 16
Description
This is a gorgeous peach girdle, with four suspenders attached at the hemline. I don’t know much about girdles, so please bear with me whilst I describe it in layman’s terms. It has two labels: one appears to be a retailers tag and says ‘Jacqui’ and ‘80% coton’. The other is a manufacturer’s label and says ‘Corsetterie Huis Hiel’. The fabric is a thick cotton-feel fabric, with a machine-embroidered floral pattern to it, in peach and white. It laces at the back (with extremely long laces) and hooks up, off-centre at the front. It has 11 vertical strips of boning – or something similar. The top of these – at the waist – is padded with a strip of soft pink fleece; the base of each piece of boning is covered with a small tab of what appears to be white leather. At the centre front, over the stomach, there is a vertical panel which seems to have horizontal boning to it. Beneath that, at the hemline, there is an inserted triangle of tough elastic, for ease of fitting. There are four suspenders attached to the hemline on elastic straps. The suspenders themselves are plastic, but they have metal adjusters.
Condition
It seems to be in very good condition. There are a few small grubby marks to the outside. I have not attempted to launder it, since I wouldn’t know how to go about it, but I have no doubt the marks will come out with cleaning.
Size
The retailers label says size 78. I am not sure what this means. By my estimations, this is a 16. The actual waist measurement is 31.5 inches – and this is taken with the lacing about 1.5” apart, so it would probably go down to about 30” minimum. In length, it measures 16.5 inches at the back and 14.5 inches at the front.
